FAQs

  • The core philosophy of On the Margins' (OTM) Clinical Training Program is rooted in anti-racism, joy-focused practice, and freedom dreaming, executed with unwavering love and commitment.

As a collaborative effort with On the Margins Family Therapy & Psychological Services Inc., our dedicated team of health professionals, artists, researchers, and consultants is committed to operating at the crucial intersection of feminism, anti-racism, and trauma-responsiveness.

    This philosophy guides us to:

    • Dismantle Harmful Practices: We actively work to dismantle white-supremacist, heteropatriarchal, cisnormative, mono-normative, and colonial practices within the healthcare system, research labs, classrooms, and the larger community.

    • Cultivate Clinicians: We train the next generation of clinicians to be systemic, culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and ethical Marriage and Family Therapists, Professional Clinical Counselors, Social Workers, and Psychologists.

    • Provide Affirming Care: We prioritize creating safe, affirming therapeutic spaces and seek clinicians adept at serving individuals who identify as Queer, Trans, BIPOC, bilingual/bicultural, immigrant, or first-generation.

Our work is fundamentally inspired by BIPOC scholars, feminists, freedom fighters, community organizers, and abolitionists, ensuring our practice remains at the forefront of culturally humble care.

  • We are seeking exceptional clinicians and trainees whose practice is firmly rooted in a deep commitment to cultural sensitivity, humility, and social justice. Our ideal candidates are committed to creating a safe, affirming therapeutic space for clients at the intersection of multiple areas of oppression, and we are especially interested in those who have experience with Queer, Trans, BIPOC, bilingual/bicultural, immigrant, or first-generation communities. Furthermore, we prioritize clinicians dedicated to reflective practice and ongoing learning to ensure they remain at the forefront of culturally humble and ethical care.

  • As a member of the clinical team, you will be expected to deliver trauma-informed and culturally responsive therapy services, both in-person and virtually, across a broad urban and rural area. This may involve traveling to see clients in Bay and Sonoma County, including specific locations like Petaluma, Santa Rosa, Cloverdale, and Sonoma Valley.

  • An integrative model means that our supervision draws upon multiple theoretical orientations and techniques rather than relying on a single, strict supervisory framework.

We use this approach because we believe no single theory can fully address the diverse learning needs of our trainees or the complex, varied challenges they encounter when serving our community. This flexibility allows supervisors to tailor their guidance to best support your individual growth and skill development.
